Bruce Forman

Bruce Forman (born May 14, 1956 in Springfield , Massachusetts ) is an American jazz guitarist who is considered a mainstream jazz stylist in the Jim Hall / Herb Ellis / Joe Pass tradition.

Live and act

Forman first learned the piano before switching to the guitar in 1970. In 1971 he moved to San Francisco. He studied with Jackie King at Poly Tech High School and began working with his own groups in the Bay Area; he also performed regularly at the Monterey Jazz Festival . In 1972 he gigged in New York with Roland Hanna and Sam Jones . From 1978 to 1982 he played with Richie Cole . From the beginning of the 1980s he began to record albums under his own name, u. a. with Bobby Hutcherson ( There Are Times , 1986), Billy Childs, and Eddie Marshall ; 1985 originated with George Cables album Dynamics in Concord Jazz . His most successful production was Forman on the Job in 1992 , with which he reached # 14 on the Billboard Top Jazz Albums chart. Forman also played with Eddie Jefferson , Freddie Hubbard , Joe Farrell , Tom Harrell , Mark Murphy , Kristin Korb and Grover Washington Jr. He also performed with Jimmy Knepper ( 1st Place , 1982), Ray Brown ( Some of My Best Friends Are Guitarists ) and Charlie Shoemake on. With the band Cow Bop he played a mixture of modern jazz and western swing .

Forman has taught at various high schools and universities, including the University of North Carolina , the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of North Texas . In 2000 he founded the JazzMasters Workshop organization , which has so far held more than 1500 workshops for young musicians in the USA.
