Charlie Shoemake
Charles Edward "Charlie" Shoemake (born July 27, 1937 in Houston , Texas ) is an American musician ( vibraphone , piano ) of modern jazz .
Shoemake took piano lessons from the age of six and studied piano at Southern Methodist University in Dallas . From 1956 he worked in Los Angeles , where he took private lessons with Jimmy Rowles , worked in the studios, but also recorded with Charles Lloyd , Art Pepper and the Lighthouse All Stars . In the mid-1960s, under the influence of Victor Feldman , he switched to the vibraphone. Between 1966 and 1973 he was a member of the George Shearing quintet and gained international acclaim. He also worked on recordings by Lalo Schifrin , Quincy Jones , Frank Sinatra , Johnny Mandel and Nelson Riddle . In the mid-1970s he opened a music school and founded his own groups. In 1978 the first record appeared under his own name. He is considered a specialist in high quality "Easy Going Jazz". He has lived in Cambria since 1990 with his wife, the singer Sandy Shoemake .
