Eddie Gladden (* 6. December 1937 in Newark (New Jersey) , † the thirtieth September 2003 ) was an American jazz - drummer .

Gladden began his professional career in the Newark music scene; He then became known through his collaboration with the organist Larry Young , on whose albums Heaven on Earth (1968) and Mother Ship (1969) he participated. He also played with Freddie Roach , Woody Shaw and Johnny Coles . In 1972 he went on tour with James Moody , who was also from Newark ; later he worked a. a. with Kenny Dorham , Jimmy McGriff , Shirley Scott , Richie Cole , "Big" John Patton and Horace Silver . In 1978 he appeared in the Dexter Gordon / Johnny Griffin quintet at New York's Carnegie Hall . In the 1980s he worked in productions by Clifford Jordan , Kirk Lightsey , Jimmy Raney ( The Master , 1983), Rufus Reid and most recently with John Stubblefield ( Confessin ' , 1984), in the Chet Baker / Warne Marsh Quintet (1984 ) and with David "Fathead" Newman ( Heads Up ! , 1986). In 1988, Gladden suffered a stroke that interrupted his career for several years until he was finally killed by diabetes . He died of a heart attack in 2003 .
