Neal Miner
Neal Miner (born February 3, 1970 in New York City ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass , composition ) of modern jazz .
Live and act
Neal Miner first took lessons from his father Bill Miner, a jazz record collector and discographer. Through his record collection he came into contact with jazz early on; his father also took him to clubs and concerts. In Manhattan, where he grew up, he attended the Interlochen Arts Academy , then the Manhattan School of Music . He had lessons a. with Orin O'Brien , a musician with the New York Philharmonic, and with jazz bassist John Webber . At the age of 19 he started to work in the jazz scene in his hometown. a. with Larry Goldings , Harry Allen , Russell Malone , Peter Bernstein , David Hazeltine , Dena DeRose , Ann Hampton Callaway , Loston Harris , James Moody , Frank Wess , David Allyn , Eddie Locke , Etta Jones , Bob Dorough and Warren Vaché .
The first recordings were made in 1993 with Randy Klein's Jazzheads . From 1998 he went on tour with Jon Hendricks , and he was also a regular accompanist for Annie Ross for her engagements in the Metropolitan Room . In 2007 he became a member of Jane Monheit's band . Miner released several albums with his own compositions and arrangements under his own name; In 2000 he released his debut album The Real Neal (Juniper Records), which he recorded with Doug White (tenor saxophone), Chris Bergson (guitar) and Joe Strasser (drums). In addition to his work as a musician, Miner teaches jazz bass at LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, City College of New York and The New School . In the field of jazz he was involved in 56 recording sessions between 1993 and 2017, including a. also with Mark Elf , Chris Byars , Joe Romano , Stephanie Nakasian , Ehud Asherie , Catherine Russell and Champian Fulton .
