Rimantas Norvila (* 2. December 1957 in Baptai , Kaunas District Municipality , Lithuanian SSR ) is a Lithuanian Catholic priest, Youth bishop and bishop of Vilkaviškis .

Training, vicariate

In 1975 Rimantas Norvila graduated from the 26th Kaunas Middle School and began studying at the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute . From 1976 to 1978 he did compulsory military service in the Soviet army . Then worked in various companies and institutions (about 8 years).

In 1986 he entered the Kaunas Seminary and was ordained on February 24, 1991. He then worked as a vicar in the Kaunas Cathedral, in the parishes of St. Joseph, Prisikėlimo (Resurrection Church).

In 1993 he became Chancellor of the Curia in the Archdiocese of Kaunas .

In 1995 Norvila studied theology in Rome and became a licentiate.

On May 28, 1997 Rimantas Norvila was appointed auxiliary bishop in Kaunas by Pope John Paul II and appointed titular bishop of Castrum . He was ordained episcopate on June 29, 1997 by the Archbishop of Kaunas, Sigitas Tamkevičius . Co- consecrators were Audrys Juozas Bačkis , Archbishop of Vilnius , and Vladas Michelevicius , Titular Bishop of Thapsus and Auxiliary Bishop in Kaunas.

He was Temporary Rain of the Kaunas Seminary (July 1997 to July 2001) and Vicar General of the Archbishop of Kaunas (July 27, 1999).

On January 5, 2002, Norvila became Bishop of Vilkaviškis (appointed by John Paul II), Ingress was celebrated in the Vilkaviškis Cathedral on February 10.

Since September 20, 2002 he has been chairman of the Youth Council of the Lithuanian Bishops 'Conference (LVK) and of the Council for Relations with the Polish Bishops' Conference of LVK, member of the Permanent Council of LVK since September 20 (2005).
