The Rimo Muztagh is one of the most distant parts of the Karakoram in northwestern India near the disputed border with Pakistan .

Location and characteristics

Compared to the nearby Baltoro Muztagh, there is little research and climbing activity here because of the remoteness and proximity to the military-controlled Siachen Glacier .

In the north of Rimo Muztagh is the Rimogletscher limited, the east to the top Shyok flows, and through the Teram-Shehr Glacier which opens into the Siachen Glacier. In the northeast are the northeastern "Rimo Mountains" and the Karakorum Pass , over which the historically important trade routes of Central Asia run. Further north it borders on the eastern foothills of the Siachen Muztagh .

On the east side, the mountains border on the Shyok River, behind which are the Depsang plains , part of the Tibetan plateau . In the southeast, the well-known Sasser Pass (Saser La) separates the Rimo Muztagh from the Saser Muztagh .

The western border is formed by the Siachen Glacier and its outlet, the Nubra , with the Saltoro Mountains and the Kailas Mountains behind .

The highest peak is the Mamostong Kangri with a height of 7516  m .
