Saser Muztagh is the easternmost mountain range of the Karakoram . It is part of the Great Karakoram , the main chain (Muztagh) of this mountain range and in the Saser Kangri I reaches an altitude of 7672 meters.

location

Located in the Indian part of Kashmir , it is bounded in the south, east and northeast by the Shyok River, which curves tightly around the southeast side of the mountain range and represents the southeast border of the entire Karakoram. In the north, the Sasser Pass ( Saser La ) connects the Karakoram main chain to the Rimo Muztagh . In the west, the Nubra River , which flows from the Siachen Glacier to the Shyok, separates the Saser Muztagh from the Saltoro Mountains , which are part of the Little Karakoram, which runs parallel to the main chain . In the south, across the Shyok, lies the Ladakh mountain range .

history

Between 1850 and 1900, the first European expeditions came to this area to research and measure it. In 1909 the famous explorers TG Longstaff , Arthur Neve and AM Slingsby explored the Nubra Valley and looked for a way to the Saser Kangri massif . The main peak of the mountain range was not climbed until the 1970s.

Since this area is close to the disputed border between India and Pakistan, there is currently little climbing and research activity here.

Selected peaks

The following table lists the peaks in Saser Muztagh that are higher than 7000 m and have a notch height of more than 500 m. All peaks are part of the Saser Kangri massif; the highest point outside of this group is the Argan Kangri with 6789 m.
