Solidarity community of teachers and educators in South Baden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Solidargemeinschaft Lehrer und Erzieher Südbaden eV (SOLE) was a non-profit association.

history

At the beginning of the 1980s, after their legal clerkship, even with good exam grades in Germany , trained teachers found it increasingly difficult to find employment in the civil service. Because of this teacher unemployment, on December 8, 1982 in Freiburg i.Br. SOLE founded by university teachers, not as a self-help group , but as an expression of the solidarity of permanent teachers and lecturers with their unemployed colleagues. Co-founder Willy Potthoff put it this way: “Of course, the state should not be released from its responsibility. (...) But it does not relieve us of the obligation to give our help to those who feel need every day. "

A large part of the 851 members (1986) over 900 sponsors of the association were civil servant teachers of all types of schools and teachers active in teacher training as well as employees of school authorities. District groups from various teachers' associations also joined the association. The space for the office of the association and for the establishment of a reform pedagogical office was made available by the Freiburg University of Education .

From 1982 to 1993 Willy Potthoff, professor at the PH Freiburg, was honorary chairman of the association and spiritus rector of most of the SOLE projects. At the end of 1993, the association disbanded itself due to the improved chances of being hired in the state of Baden-Württemberg .

aims

The purpose of the association was to offer unemployed teachers and educators employment opportunities in educational fields for several years until they were accepted into the school service (or until they were given another permanent position). In the following projects initiated and carried out by SOLE, unemployed people were hired and paid according to the collective wage ( BAT ):

  • Academy for Reform Education
  • Development of the senior studies at the PH Freiburg
  • Secondary school and secondary school graduation courses
  • Dyslexic promotion
  • "Encounters" project for young people
  • Reform pedagogical jobs (at 7 locations in South Baden )
  • Student help with homework assistance
  • Playground project (Freiburg-Günterstal)
  • Technical workshop (Freiburg-Herdern)
  • Pottery classes in schools and other leisure projects.

These jobs were financed by ABM funds from the employment offices (predecessors of today's employment agencies ), the monthly contributions of the association members, partly also through course fees and project-related grants from several cities and municipalities.

Results

A total of 112 people found a job in the SOLE Südbaden projects (each half-day) and 756 unemployed teachers with smaller teaching loads were employed. In addition to the financial aspect, the gathering of professional experience in educational work areas should be positively emphasized for this group of people. The activities of the SOLE were also helpful for the participants in the courses (e.g. disadvantaged children and young people or senior citizens) as well as for the dissemination of reform pedagogical forms of teaching (e.g. free work ) in public schools.

Furthermore, the SOLE created a model for the teachers already in government service to reduce the deputation on a voluntary basis, which resulted in new jobs for unemployed teachers in the schools.

Following the example of the solidarity community, the organisationally independent associations SOLE Nordbaden ( Karlsruhe ), SOLE Nordwürttemberg (Nussdorf near Vaihingen / Enz , later in Ludwigsburg ), SOLE Südwürttemberg ( Weingarten ) and SALE ( Linz in Upper Austria) were created.
