Rincón de los Sauces is a city in southwest Argentina . It is located in the north of the province of Neuquén and is the largest city of the Pehuenches department , but not its capital (this is in Buta Ranquil ).
geography
Rincón de los Sauces is located on the south bank of the Río Colorado . To the south of the city is the mountain formation of the Sierra Auca Mahuida .
history
The region around Rincón de los Sauces was settled from the end of the 19th century, but the place was long an insignificant settlement. In 1960, the state oil company YPF began test drilling, which was crowned with success in 1968. On December 20, 1970, Rincón de los Sauces was officially founded, from then on the town began to grow rapidly thanks to the extractive industries. In 1996 skeletons of dinosaurs were found in the area , so that from then on paleontologists also settled in the area.
economy
Rincón de los Sauces is now one of the centers of oil and gas production in Argentina. This fact has made the city the fastest growing in all of Argentina; between 1991 and 2001 it almost tripled its population (from 3,475 to 10,071: 189.8%).
