The Ring Djursland is a Danish racing circuit . It is located east of the village of Pederstrup ( Syddjurs Kommune ) and close to Tirstrup Airport and the city of Grenaa . The paved permanent circuit is 1,750 meters long and 9 meters wide at the narrowest point; it is driven clockwise.

Financed by the well-known racing driver and publisher Jens Christian Legarth , the track was opened in 1965 with Formula 3 , touring car and sports car races . At first it was only 800 m long. The story continues that Legarth , at that time still on the site used as a field, marked the railway with his private car. In the following year, the length of the route should be increased to around 1000 m. Inspired by a design by the architect Per Lauritsen , however, the carriageway should now be extended to 1752 m. However, the route was only gradually expanded to the planned and still existing form. The 1966 season debut also marked the premiere of the new Formula Vee in Denmark. Another Danish premiere was a racing event on Christmas Day in 1966. At that time around 800 kg of salt were needed to clear the slope of the ice.

In 1967 there was a fatal accident in a Formula 3 race. Douglas Revson , the brother of the better-known Peter Revson , and Legarth himself collided. Both drivers were killed. In addition, the wreckage of the vehicles injured five other spectators, including Legarth's wife Annie . Legarth's widow sold the line to Gunnar Henriksen as early as 1969 . Another year later, he sold the system to Ancher Larsen . Larsen also brought motocross to the Djursland ring. In addition, the route, which has now been extended to 1,450 m, was driven counterclockwise, but only during the 1970 season. From the 1972 season, René Koors was the new owner of the route.

In 1980 and 1981 there were European Rallycross races on the Ring Djursland

After the sporting activities had decreased significantly, a Formula 3 race was held again in 1973 for the first time in five years. However, problems with the volume load led to reduced racing activity. In 1975 almost no races were held, and in 1976 even no races at all. It was not until 1978, after the creation of additional gravel passages, that a new upswing was noticeable with the introduction of a rallycross event. This competition, organized by Ulrik Aubertin-Oxholm in collaboration with the Djursland Motor Klub , became the first Danish round of the European Rallycross Championship on June 8, 1980. On July 12, 1981, this race was held again as part of the FIA European Rallycross Championship, but not again after that. After a dispute arose between René Koors and the route operator, the route changed hands again. Racing activities were now suspended until 1984.

From then on, Formula Ford and Sports 2000 races were increasingly held. In 1987 the Formula Ford race was part of the EFDA Euroseries . From 1990 to 1993, environmental and noise problems led to the end of all racing activities. In 1994 motorsport resumed with touring car races. Even Legarth's son Mike Legarth was there . Later he and his brother Pierre Legarth also competed together in the Danish Touring Car Championship , which has been a regular guest at Ring Djursland since 1999. In addition, rallycross races and other national circuit series can again be found in the facility's racing calendar. The German Special Touring Car Trophy is also represented here with a race.

The last conversion measure so far was in 2004 a complete new asphalting of the roadway, as well as the improvement of safety.
