Ringwall Staufen (Hesse)
Staufen ring wall

The Staufen ring wall is the stable of a small rampart ( hill fort ) on the Staufen im Taunus , between Eppstein and Fischbach . The complex is not dated, although Karl August von Cohausen found pottery shards in the area of the complex, which he referred to as Terra Sigillata .

The wall to the west of the facility has a length of 9 meters, a width of 3.5 meters and a height of 2.7 meters. Upstream is a trench 7.5 meters wide and 1.5 meters deep. The wall separates from the ridge the area on the rock plateau of the Großer Mannstein , which has a size of about 0.025 hectares. There is no evidence of wall construction. Only a hole carved in the rock measuring 0.6 meters by 0.6 meters and 0.9 meters deep indicates the activity of a stonemason.

From the wooden platform installed on the rock plateau, you can enjoy a far-reaching view. Among other things, the Altkönig ring wall can be seen from here.

On the rocky plateau of the Großer Mannstein , a memorial plaque commemorates the Staufen oath . In the autumn of 1838 the brothers Friedrich , Heinrich and Max von Gagern vowed to devote their energy to the unity and freedom of Germany and to stand loyally to one another.

Close to the wall is the schill oak with a memorial stone. On the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of Friedrich von Schiller's death , Baroness Antonie von Reinach had a memorial stone erected and an American red oak planted.

Monument protection

The area of the Burgstall is a ground monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . Investigations and targeted collection of finds are subject to approval, and accidental finds are reported to the monument authorities.
