Christian Ludwig Thomas (born March 29, 1848 in Frankfurt am Main ; † December 16, 1913 there ) was a German architect , archaeologist and royal building officer .

education

Christian Ludwig Thomas studied at the Technical University of Karlsruhe and at the Technical University (Berlin-) Charlottenburg . In Karlsruhe he became a member of the Teutonia fraternity . During that time he took part in the Franco-German War in 1870/71. After completing his studies, Thomas worked for the Upper Hessian Railway Company for a short time . From 1875 to 1885 he was a freelance architect in Frankfurt and then devoted himself to archeology . In the same year (1875) he joined the Frankfurt Masonic Lodge "Zur Einigkeit".

Thomas was involved in the excavation of the Roman villa near Günthersburg in the north end of Frankfurt . Furthermore, he worked on excavations in Heddernheim and in the old town . Between 1904 and 1906, Thomas localized the oldest Frankfurt city ​​wall from the Ottonian period, which he ascribed to the Carolingians due to insufficient knowledge of ceramics and stratigraphy of the old town .
