Rino Montanari

Rino Montanari (born July 17, 1945 in San Pietro in Casale , Italy , † February 3, 2000 in Renazzo) was an Italian cyclist.

Montanari was briefly known as an amateur and as a professional driver . As an amateur athlete, he was part of the Italian national team in 1968, which took part in the three-country stage race International Peace Tour from East Berlin via Prague to Warsaw . As the second youngest in the team, he won the twelfth stage from Katowice to Krakow , but in the overall ranking as the worst Italian he only finished 52nd among 67 active athletes.

In 1969 Montanari switched to professional riders with a contract with the Italian cycling team Wega. He took part in the Giro d'Italia in 1969, but retired early from the race.

After the end of his career as an active racing cyclist, Montanari settled in Renazzo in northern Italy in the province of Ferrara . There he got involved with the Stella Alpina cycling club, where he temporarily held the office of club president. He died of an incurable disease at the age of 54. The Montanari Memorial Race is held annually in the neighboring Velodromo Corrado Ardizzoni in Cento.
