The Rio Caeté is a river in the northeast of the Brazilian state of Pará . The name Caeté is associated with the name of an Indian tribe of the same name.

geography

The Rio Caeté rises about 8 kilometers south of Bonito and runs through the Bragança-Viseu Depression before flowing into the Atlantic northeast of Bragança . The river's estuary is part of an extensive mangrove belt that stretches from the Bay of Marajó to the Lençóis Maranhenses region in the state of Maranhão . Above the area of influence of the tides, a narrow, mostly less than 800 m wide strip of forest lines the river up to the area of the upper reaches near Bonito ; the surrounding area is largely deforested. At high tide, the Caeté is navigable for smaller ships to the port of Bragança. Road bridges cross the Caeté in Bragança, Nova Mocajuba and at Capanema .
