The series, which builds on Michael Sokolove's book Drama High , follows Lou “Mr. Mazzu “Mazzuchelli, an English teacher at Stanton High who wants to reinvent the school's theatrical performances. He takes over the Stanton Drama Club, a theater group, and wants to perform the musical Spring Awakening , which is based on the drama of the same name by Frank Wedekind , with them.
