reception

The album reached number 60 on the Billboard 200 in the US . Steve Huey from Allmusic awarded four out of five stars. He described the album as a "revelation" at the time of its release. For all metal guitarists of the 1980s, the album was a "must-have guide". The album was ranked number one in the all-time top ten list of Shred albums in Guitar World magazine . The editorial team of Rock Hard magazine recorded the album at number 116 of their 500 best albums. Andreas Himmelstein wrote: “Even if the guitar sound sounds a little antiquated today, Yngwie's Strat sound, which is strongly based on Ritchie Blackmore , is still convincing.” With a few exceptions, almost all of the subsequent neo-classical guitar records would not have been so convincing can like this album.
