Rising Girl is a hip-hop / reggae / ragga formation from the Austrian city of Graz .
Band history
The band was founded in Graz in the mid-1990s . Her very first name was Diving Deep and her music then went even more in the direction of acoustic rock , but there were also signs of reggae . The band's first success was in 1995 when they won the Styrian band competition Rock Weiß Grün . A year later they recorded the Extended Play Push ... at the ORF Landesstudio Steiermark . They then turned their style of music entirely to reggae and renamed themselves Rising Girl . The genres hip-hop and dancehall were also added. In 2003 the band released their first album Just Be You . Two years later, the Austrian major label Sony BMG became aware of the formation through the Ö3 Soundcheck and released the single Rising Girl . The song was played very often by the Austrian radio station Ö3. The song was actually released on the EP Push ... in 1996 , but it wasn't until 2005 that it became a hit after it had been promoted .
After the commercial release of the single Rising Girl in June 2005 , it reached number 1 in the Austrian charts in August of the same year and ranked number 16 in the Austrian annual charts from 2005. In November 2005, the album Salamaleikum was released. Many new songs were recorded for the album, but also a few songs from the previous album Just Be You . In 2006 Rising Girl was nominated for two Amadeus Austrian Music Awards .
In summer 2007 the band was expanded to include the Graz-born rappers J-Boy and Don Dagga and released the single Rule the Boat under the project title Rising Nation under the motto "Rising Girl grows to Rising Nation" . On October 24, 2008, the album Pure Fresh Breeze was released and shortly afterwards the single So in Love . On August 21, 2009, the Swedish pop group Lovestoned released a cover version of Rising Girl . In June 2013 the band released the single I Know You'll Wait For Me together with hip-hop dj Lil Dirty (Ivo Zaricin) as lead singer .
