The manor Oberfarnstädt (also moated castle Farnstädt , Unterhof ) is a listed building in the district Farnstädt of the community of Weida-Land in the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments , the manor is listed as a monument under registration number 094 50284 .

history

In the middle of the 15th century there were fighting around the moated castle of Oberfarnstädt after horse thieves found shelter here and the city of Halle (Saale) dispatched an army to arrest them, which the noblemen of Querfurt opposed an army, as this was an interference in their jurisdiction. Also in 1488, the castle inmates caused unrest when they set fire to several outbuildings in the surrounding area. The manor is a moated castle that was built on behalf of von Geusau in 1615. The manor is now privately owned.

The building is a baroque two-storey four-wing complex with a flat central projection . The building has been shaped today through various modifications . The square, medieval three-storey tower with the von Geusau's coat of arms from 1615 is located in the middle of the east wing. The western and northern parts of the surrounding moat have been preserved. On the north side of the former forecourt there is still a remarkable half-timbered house .
