history
Rivarolo was an independent municipality until 1926 when it was incorporated into the Greater Genoa . Before that it was mainly an important junction of the railway lines towards Milan and towards Alessandria , with the railway lines of the Genoa-Turin line ; the Genoa – Asti branch line through the Apennines branches off from the main line in Val Polcevera . The metro in Genoa ( Metropolitana di Genova ) from the direction of the old port has ended in the above-ground Brin station since 1990.
The most important sights of the district are the church of Santa Maria Assunta from the 12th century and the castle Foltzer , which today serves as the community library . In addition, in the small village of Garbo, there is the Museo ligure di storia e cultura contadina (German: Ligurian Museum of the History and Culture of the Peasant Class ). Rivarolo has a small hospital (Celesia).
The actress Lyda Borelli , the partisan leader Aldo Gastaldi and the painter Enrico Castello were all born in Rivarolo .
