The River Cray is a watercourse in Greater London and Kent , England . It arises in the north of Orpington and initially flows in a northerly direction. Between Bexley in the west and Crayford in the east it takes a northeastern direction, in which it flows to its confluence with the River Darent .
In the 16th century its clear water attracted the linen processing industry, which bleached and printed fabrics here.
