Riversdale ( Afrikaans : Riversdal ) is a small South African town on the N2 between Cape Town and George . It is located at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains . Riversdale is dominated by agriculture, but forms the central hub for services and purchases from the surrounding farms, smaller towns and the coastal towns of Witsand and Stilbaai .
16,176 inhabitants live in Riversdale on 68.66 km² (as of 2011).
history
Riversdale was founded as a church on the grounds of Farm Doornskraal. It was later named after the local Landdrost Harry Rivers, who was in office in Swellendam . The town charter has existed since August 30, 1838. Riversdale is also the seat of the local government of Hessequa . Riversdale is connected to the South African railway network by the Worcester – Voorbaai railway.
