Hessequa is a municipality in the Garden Route District, Western Cape Province in South Africa . In 2011 the population was 52,642 on a total area of ​​5,733 km². The seat of the local government is Riversdale .

The community name is a Khoikhoi term for "people of the trees" with reference to the tribe living there.
