It has its origins in the Monts Notre-Dame mountain range in Québec in Lake Lac Long . From there it flows in a south-easterly direction. It flows through the lakes Lac des Chasseurs and Lac Patapédia . Later the tributaries Rivière Patapédia Est and Rivière Meadow flow into the river on the left.
