Rivière du Vieux Comptoir underlies the Route de la Baie James

The Rivière du Vieux Comptoir is a tributary of the James Bay in the Jamésie region in the western part of the Canadian province of Québec .

The Rivière du Vieux Comptoir rises in the area of Lac Kachinwapachikamach east of the Route de la Baie James . It flows in a westerly direction, crosses the country road at road kilometer 464 and later flows through the lake Lac du Vieux Comptoir . It continues its course to the west and reaches the east coast of James Bay 45 km north-northwest of Eastmain . The river has a length of 122 km. Its catchment area covers 2719 km².

Naming

There used to be a trading post at the mouth of the river. The French-speaking river name ( Vieux Comptoir French for "old trading post ") is derived from this fact.
