history

The oldest evidence of human life in the Roßwälder district comes from the Iron Age . It became a Celtic gold coin from around 500 BC. BC, which shows a horse on the obverse and the head of a warrior with a helmet on the reverse. On the road from Roßwälden to Wellingen , a bricked Alemannic grave from the 3rd century was discovered in 1869 . A lance and a knife had been placed in the grave of the dead man as a funeral offering. In 1112 Berthold von Huockenberc donated six farms near Wälden to the St. Peter monastery near Freiburg im Breisgau . The name Roßwälden was later derived from the addition of "Forests on Roßrain".

Roßwälden is mentioned in writing for the first time in 1275. In a document from that year it can be read that the pastoral position in the village was occupied by a vicar.

Roßwälden was then simply called Weldin, which means the settlement by the forest. Later Roßwälden had other names. In 1392 it was called "Guetenwälden". The names "Wälden Roßrain" (1435) and "Roßrain Wälden" (1477) indicate horse breeding in the area. It was not given its current name Roßwälden until the 16th century.

Depiction of Roßwälden by Andreas Kieser 1685

In 1294 the monastery in Kirchheim unter Teck acquired its first goods in Roßwälden. Later there were more and more. In 1538 Roßwälden, Weiler and Sulpach set up a joint mayor, who was then called Schultheiss. These three places together formed the so-called Roßwälder Stab. In 1547 there was war. Spanish troops occupied Kirchheim and the surrounding area. They housed and looted terribly, and there was murder and famine. Although Roßwälden had probably had a church dedicated to Saint Benedict since 1467, they had no pastor. Pastors from Schlierbach, Hochdorf and a catechist from Esslingen provided church service in Roßwälden. Pastor Georg Binder was given the first pastor's position in 1557. Even then, the rectory stood where it is today. The church buildings were maintained by the Adelberg Monastery .

Katharina Kepler , mother of the imperial astronomer Johannes Kepler, died in Roßwälden in 1622 . She was accused in 1615 during a witch hunt in one of the most famous Wurttemberg witch trials and was acquitted in 1621, not least through the efforts of her well-known son.

On January 1, 1972, Roßwälden was incorporated into Ebersbach an der Fils.
