Robbie Joseph Magasiva (born May 21, 1972 in Wellington ) is a New Zealand - Samoan actor and comedian , who became famous for his roles in Shortland Street and as Mauhúr from the film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers .

life and career

Robbie Magasiva was born in 1972 as one of four sons, including the actor Pua Magasiva (1980-2019), and a daughter of Salafa and Taufaiula Ropati Magasiva in the New Zealand capital Wellington. At the age of five he moved with his parents to Samoa, where he grew up in the community of Tanumapua, near the capital Apia . When Magasiva was ten years old, the family moved permanently to New Zealand.

After graduating from school, he began to take on acting roles in the theater and in some commercials, while at the same time he worked as a receptionist for an advertising agency.

Magasiva's path into the film and television business began in the early 1990s. So he first played in some episodes of the series Shark in the Park and was subsequently seen in several television films. In 1999 he took on a role as Mason Keeler in the series Jackson's Wharf . In 2001 he took on the leading role of Jack in the movie Stickmen , before he was seen by an international audience a year later in the role of Uruk-Hai Mauhúr from the movie The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers . He also joined the comedy group Naked Samoans . From 2002 to 2003 he appeared in over 30 episodes as Adam Lima in The Strip . In 2006 he took on a leading role as Michael in the comedy Sione's Wedding , which proved to be financially successful in New Zealand, and was also seen in a small role in the film Air Force 2 . A year later followed a supporting role in the horror film The Tattooist .

In 2009 Magasiva was awarded the role of Dr. Maxwell Avia in the New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street , which he played until 2013. In 2013 he was cast as Officer Will Jackson in the Australian series Wentworth , which he has played since then. In 2016 he took on a supporting role as Jackson in the series Dirty Laundry .

Personal

Magasiva has two children with Alice Gordon, Astin (* 1996) and Sophie (* 2000), who like him live in Auckland . From 2006 to 2011 he was married to Anna Magasiva. He and the British-New Zealand actress Natalie Medlock have been a couple since 2011 .
