Pua Magasiva (born August 10, 1980 as Pauivanu Paulo Pua Magasiva in Apia , Samoa ; † found dead on May 11, 2019 in Wellington ) was a Samoan- New Zealand actor and comedian .

life and career

Pua Magasiva, whose older brother Robbie also works in the acting field, was born in 1980 in the Samoan capital Apia, but grew up in the New Zealand capital Wellington, where he moved with his family at the age of two. It was also his older brother who inspired him and brought him to acting. In addition, Robbie Magasiva helped his brother, who was a good eight years younger, to his first small film and television roles. However, Pua Magasiva only had his first notable appearances in 2001, when he played a small and insignificant supporting role in the movie The Other Side of Heaven . In the same year Magasiva also got a role in the Maori language series Aroha , which was shown for the first time in 2001 at the New Zealand International Film Festival in Auckland .

Another appearance in an episode of Revelations followed in 2002 : The Initial Journey . However, Magasiva only celebrated his real breakthrough the following year when he appeared in Power Rangers: Ninja Storm and played one of the lead roles in the series as Red Ranger . Until the series ran out in the same year, the native Samoan could be seen in all 38 episodes. He also made his series debut in 2003 in the successful New Zealand soap Shortland Street , in which he played the recurring role of Vinnie Kruse until 2006 . He also lent his voice to the character of the Red Ranger in the computer game Power Rangers: Ninja Storm in 2003 and was used in another Power Rangers production , in Power Rangers Dino Thunder, in 2004 . In the series, also titled with 38 episodes, Magasiva was only seen in two episodes. In 2004 he was a finalist for the Cleo Magazine Celebrity Bachelor of the Year , an annual prize awarded by Cleo Magazine .

In addition to his work in film and television, Pua Magasiva was also active as a stage actor and appeared in the plays Two Days in Dream (2003), Sex with Strangers (2004) and Where We Once Belonged (2008), among others.

He was found dead in Wellington on the morning of May 11, 2019.

Magasiva left behind his second wife, as well as a daughter from his first marriage and another daughter from a previous relationship.
