Robert Balchin, Baron Lingfield

Robert Balchin, Baron Lingfield (born July 31, 1942 in Dulverton , Somerset ) is a British educationalist and life peer in the House of Lords .

Balchin is Pro Chancellor at Brunel University and Chairman of the ARNI Foundations. He is also Chairman of the League of Mercy and Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London . Previously, he was General Manager of St. John Ambulance from 1984 to 1990 . From 1989 to 1999 he was on the board of directors of the Grant-Maintained Schools Center and, from 1995, on the board of Management Education . He has written many articles on educational and political topics.

As Knight of Justice, he has been a member of the Order of Saint John since 1984 and received the Pro Merito Melitensi Order of Merit in 1984 . In 1993 he was knighted ( Knight Bachelor ). From 2006 to 2012 he was Knight Principal Chairman of the Assembly of the Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor and since 2004 Honorary Colonel of the Army Cadet Force for Humberside and South Yorkshire . He is Freeman of the City of London and Liveryman of the Worshipful Companies of Goldsmiths and the Broderers .

Balchin was promoted to Life Peer on December 17, 2010 as Baron Lingfield , of Lingfield in the County of Surrey. He holds the associated seat in the House of Lords on the side of the Conservative Party . His school initiative was the deputy editor in chief of The Daily Telegraph praised Benedict Brogan as a revolution in education.

Lord Lingfield speaks mostly on educational issues in Parliament .
