from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Beavers (* 1949 in Brookline , Massachusetts ) is an American avant-garde filmmaker who has lived and worked in Europe since the late 1960s.

Life

Beavers attended Deerfield Academy without graduating before moving to New York City in 1965 . There he began making films, but moved to Europe with his partner Gregory J. Markopoulos in 1967 . Here they made films and lived together until Markopoulos' death in 1992.

Both filmmakers restricted the publication of their films to the general public, but between 1980 and 1986 they showed their works on the Temenos, a location near Lyssaraia in Arcadia , Greece . After the death of his partner, Beavers founded Temenos, Inc. to preserve the memory of Markopoulos' work and films.

Beavers has been preparing his films for modern performance practice, including on television and as DVD, for years. He lives (2011) temporarily in Zumikon , Canton Zurich .

In March 2017, the Austrian Filmmuseum presented the first book about Beavers in the FilmmuseumSynemaPublikatioenn series.
