Robert Constable (Knight)

Sir Robert Constable of Flamborough († May 23, 1488 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir Robert Constable was a son of Sir Robert Constable and Agnes Gascoigne, daughter of Sir William Gascoigne.

His career began after his father's death in 1441. He was a squire of Flamborough in Yorkshire . From 1444 he was in Yorkshire as a royal representative ( Commissioner in charge) with a number of administrative tasks, was from 1448 to 1453 Supervisors ( keeper ) of the lands of John Fastolf in Suffolk and from 1453 as a magistrate ( justice of the peace ) with the tasks of law and preservation entrusted to order in the East Riding of Yorkshire .

At the beginning of the Wars of the Roses , Sir Robert did not take part, but fought on the side of the Yorkists at the Battle of Towton in March 1461 .

After Edward IV's coronation , Sir Robert remained in the service of the crown and continued to be given various tasks and offices, including a. Justice of the peace 1461, Sheriff of Lincolnshire 1467, and Sheriff of Yorkshire 1461-1463 and 1478-1479. Furthermore, Sir Robert was appointed Knight of the Shire for the county of Yorkshire in 1477/78 .

Under Richard III. Sir Robert was commissioned as commissioner of aray in 1484 to secure the border region to Scotland .

Sir Robert Constable of Flamborough died in 1488.

Sir Robert was married to Agnes Wentworth, daughter of Sir Roger Wentworth. They had thirteen children:
