Robert Del Naja aka "3D" (born January 21, 1965 ) is an artist, musician and member of the group Massive Attack .

biography

Robert Del Naja was a member of the Bristol artist collective The Wild Bunch in the 1980s . He was mainly active as a graffiti artist. From the Wild Bunch , the formation Massive Attack emerged in 1987, consisting of Grantley Marshall , Andrew Vowles and Robert Del Naja. Del Naja was initially primarily responsible for the artwork (e.g. the cover design), but soon also acted as Master of Ceremonies (MC).

His influence as a composer increased over the years. An example of this is the third album Mezzanine , which is characterized by Del Naja's rock-punk influences. The fourth studio album 100th Window comes exclusively from his and co- producer Neil Davidges pen; on the fifth album Heligoland Del Naja was again prominently involved as a composer and as an MC.

In 2007 he designed the artwork for the album War Stories from UNKLE , on which he also with the song twillight is represented.

In September 2016 the online magazine GlasgowLive published an article by journalist Craig Williams with the assumption that Robert Del Naja and the street artist Banksy are either the same person or that Del Naja is at least a member of a group who is responsible for Banksy artwork. Williams justified this with a number of examples where works of art attributed to Banksy have surfaced in places either immediately prior to Massive Attack or in connection with travel on other projects in which Del Naja was involved. In June 2017, the artist Goldie picked up on this speculation in an interview. Del Naja, however, denied these rumors to the Daily Mail a day after they were published on GlasgowLive , explaining the related events with the fact that Banksy, with whom he was good friends, was merely attending the band's concerts more often.
