family

Robert Flor came from a family that originally came from Wagrien in Holstein but had lived in Hamburg since the 18th century. He was born and had the son of Friedrich Benedikt Flor (1754-1825) and his second wife Maria Cecilia Ohmann (1770-1801) seven siblings. On July 14, 1830 he married Jeanne Simon (1803-1841), daughter of Eusébe Simon, a French merchant from Nantes and the Emelie Catharine Godeffroy . He became the brother-in-law of the Hamburg diplomat Carl Godeffroy . After the early death of his wife, he married the daughter of the Prussian lieutenant general August Christian Friedrich von Legat on May 29, 1845 (1781–1852), Isolde Johanna Adeline von Legat (1820–1887).

Life

In February 1827, Flor took the Hamburg citizen oath and in the same year joined B. Crusen as a partner in the company's freight forwarding business , which was then renamed Crusen & Flor and operated at Schauenburger Straße 38. In 1837 Flor was elected commercial judge and held this office for four years. In October 1842 he became a bank citizen and as such was a member of the Deputation for Weights and Measures until 1847 . After his partner left, he ran the Crusen & Flor freight forwarding business as the sole owner from December 1844. On May 8, 1848 he was finally elected to the Commerzdeputation. Since then he has represented the Commerzdeputation in the brokerage regulations, the deputation for weights and measures, the Teerhofdeputation and the bank deputation. Flor was also a member of the commission that worked out the instructions for the Hamburg delegates at the Elbe Shipping Conference in 1851.

From January 1, 1851 to February 22, 1851 he acted as President of the Commerzdeputation, but had to make this office available again when he was elected to the finance department, Hamburg's highest financial administration. His predecessor Anton Daniel Pehmöller took over his office as President for the duration of his remaining term of office . In 1853 he was elected senior adjunct by the Commerzdeputation and did not leave this office until October 8, 1873 at the age of 79. As early as December 31, 1855, he had closed his trading company Crusen & Flor.
