Robert Friedrich Freytag

Robert Friedrich Freytag (Russian: Роберт Карлович Фрейтаг, Robert Karlowitsch Frejtag) (* 1802 Livonia Governorate ; † September 27, 1851 ) was a Lieutenant General of Baltic German descent in the service of the Russian Empire .

Life

His father († 1804) came from Saxony and was a quartermaster in the Wolmar district. The mother moved to Staraya Russa with her children . In 1826 he joined the tsarist army. In 1830 and 1831 he took part in the Polish campaign with the rank of captain on the general staff. In 1839 he took part in an expedition in southern Dagestan . In June 1840 he fought in the division of Lieutenant General Galafeyev and took part in the operations on the left bank of the Sunsha River and in the battle of the Valerik River. In 1841 he acted as an aide to General Grabbe and was wounded in a battle. On December 22, 1842, he was promoted to major general. In 1843 his associations fought the rebels under Shamyl in the Caucasian highlands near Kazanichsche . On July 31, 1845 he was promoted to lieutenant general. In 1848 Freytag was appointed quartermaster general of the Russian army and in 1849 took part in the battles of Waitzen and Debrecen under Field Marshal Paskevich .
