Rosa Wachter

Rosa Wachter (born September 21, 1911 in Vaduz , † May 16, 1972 in Schaan ) was a welfare worker from Liechtenstein . The “laustante” was the first woman to be employed on a long-term basis by the Liechtenstein national administration.

Life

Wachter's parents were the Schaaner bookbinder Hermann Wachter and Hedwig, née Kaufmann. She grew up with four siblings. After training at the nursing school Theodosianum in Zurich and training in tuberculosis care in St. Gallen Wachter worked as a home carer active in Liechtenstein.

In 1942, Wachter became head of the country's tuberculosis welfare agency. In this function, she organized the check-ups and the care and counseling of sick people and their families. Her other duties included the management of the “ vaccination control center ”. Wachter held both offices until her death. She was the first woman to be employed by the state administration for a long time. She also carried out check-ups at Liechtenstein schools to combat the lice plague . Wachter became known nationwide as the «laustante». The supervision of foster children in poor houses and socially disadvantaged families was also part of their caring responsibilities.

Rosa Wachter died on May 16, 1972 in Schaan. She had a son.
