Robert Henry Clive
Sir Robert Henry Clive GCMG , PC ( December 27, 1877 - May 13, 1948 ) was a British diplomat .
Life
Clive was the son of Katherine Elizabeth Mary Julia Feilding and Charles Meysey Bolton Clive. He studied at Haileybury College and Magdalen College, Oxford. In 1902 Clive entered the foreign service. In 1905 he married Magdalen Muir Mackenzie († October 1971). They had a daughter and two sons. From 1920 to 1923 he was employed in Beijing . From 1923 to 1924 he was Consul General in Munich with the district of Bavaria. From 1924 to 1926 he was Consul General in Tangier. During this period the Consuls General of the Protecting Powers of the Conference of June 29, 1923 in London acted as the government of the International Zone of Tangier . From 1926 to 1931 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in Tehran. From 1933 to 1934 he was envoy to the Holy See. From 1935 to 1937 he was envoy to Tokyo , Japan. From 1937 to 1939 he was envoy in Brussels , Belgium. In 1934, Clive was inducted into the Privy Council . In 1937 he became a member of the Order of St. Michael and St. George. In 1939 he was retired .
