Robert Jarvis

Robert Jarvis (* 1963 ) is a British improvisation musician ( trombone , composition) and sound artist .

Jarvis has worked in a variety of formations over the course of his career from 1985, including the London Improvisers Orchestra ( The Hearing Continues 2000), Tongues of Fire, with Hugh Hopper , Paul Rutherford and the Dutch NDIO project (with Frank van der Kooy , Hugh Hopper , Niels Brouwer , Pieter Bast ). At the end of the 1990s his debut album Carving Up Time ( Slam Records , 2001, with Frank van der Kooij, Henk de Laat , Oscar Schulze , among others ) followed by Magic Stones(2006). Jarvis participated in 17 recording sessions from 1994 to 2010. In 2015 he played in the formation Underground of Invention with Scott Fields , Robert Landfermann , Etienne Nillesen and Eckard Vossas . He also received composition commissions from the British Council in China; for his composition Disappear he received the British Composer Award in the New Media category in 2005 , and in 2006 for Magic Stones . He also made several sound installations, such as echolocation in the Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden in Surrey.
