Robert Klanten

Robert Klanten (* 1964 in Viersen ) is a German publisher . He is the founder and managing director of Die Gestalten Verlag .

Life

Klanten grew up with his grandparents on the Lower Rhine. As a teenager he played bass in various indie rock bands.

He studied industrial design at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen , but dropped out before graduating. Together with his college friend Andreas Peyerl, Klanten organized and curated the experiments shows in Frankfurt am Main .

In the early 1990s he settled in Berlin . Together with Markus Hollmann-Loges and Andreas Peyerl, he founded a graphics office that initially mainly produced flyers for techno clubs and raves . The three graphic artists designed a book about techno art to document visual aspects of techno culture . For publishing this as Localizer 1.0. titled work, Klanten and his business partners founded Die Gestalten Verlag in 1995 . In the following two years other books appeared sporadically. From 1997 the number of publications grew.

Since the departure of his previous business partners, Klanten ran the publishing house alone and held all shares until bankruptcy in 2016.

He is also a member of the Presidium of the German Design Council .

Klanten lives in Berlin with his wife and two sons.
