Robert Koall (* 1972 in Cologne ) is a German dramaturge .

Life

Koall first studied law, literature, history and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin for a few semesters . Between 1995 and 1998 he worked as an assistant to Christoph Schlingensief . He then worked as a dramaturge under Artistic Director Frank Baumbauer at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, later at the Schauspielhaus Zürich with Christoph Marthaler and at the Schauspiel Hannover in Wilfried Schulz's team . From 2009 to 2016 he was chief dramaturge at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden (artistic director Wilfried Schulz). Since summer 2016 he has been chief dramaturge and deputy general manager at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus .

Koall was best known for his adaptations of works such as Cornelia Funke's fantasy novels of the Ink World Trilogy (2006–2009) or Wolfgang Herrndorf's Roman Tschick (2011). In Koall's version, the book became one of the most frequently played material on German-speaking stages, and in the 2014/2015 season it even became cross-disciplinary. In 2012 Koall accepted the Leipzig Book Fair prize for his novel Sand on behalf of his ailing friend Herrndorf .

Koall attracted attention in February 2014 after vehemently contradicting the controversial Dresden speech by the author Sibylle Lewitscharoff in an open letter .

In 2015 he published his book A Winter with Pegida , in which he recorded his observations about the Pegida demonstrations.

Koall is an honorary member of the Christopher Street Day Dresden eV In 2013 he was appointed member of the Saxon Academy of Arts appointed.
