Robert Krasker

Robert Krasker (born August 13, 1913 in Perth , Western Australia , Australia , † August 16, 1981 in London , England ) was an Australian cameraman .

biography

Robert Krasker studied photography, including in Paris and Dresden , before coming to England in 1932. Influences from film noir and expressionism were the hallmarks of Krasker who oversaw his first film, The Rise of Catherine the Great , as a camera operator in 1934 .

From 1942 onwards as head cameraman, he was behind the camera in several films that are still known today. He had reached the zenith of his career when Krasker won the Oscar for Best Cinematography in 1951 for The Third Man .

But even in the second half of the 1950s and through the 1960s, well-known films marked Krasker's career.

He died in 1981, three days after his 68th birthday.
