Launched is a British feature film from 1947. It is based on the novel The Terrorist ( Odd Man Out ) of FL Green , who along with RC Sherriff also wrote the screenplay.

action

The film is set in Northern Ireland . Johnny McQueen is an IRA fighter. He and his comrades plan a bank robbery to provide his group with the necessary financial means to continue the fight against the British occupation. Johnny is hiding with Kathleen Sullivan and her mother. In the bank robbery, Johnny shoots a person and is seriously wounded himself. He has to flee from the British police. A manhunt for Johnny begins, which drives him across Belfast at night . His friends try to support him and bring him to safety. But the overwhelming number of police officers corner him and he is finally hit by a bullet again, this time fatally.

Awards

The film took part in the competition at the Venice International Film Festival in 1947 , but did not receive any awards. In 1948 he received an Oscar nomination for best editing and in the same year was honored with the first ever British Film Academy Award for best British film of the year.
