Robert M. Isaac

Robert Michael Isaac (born January 27, 1928 in Colorado Springs , Colorado ; † May 2, 2008 ) was an American Republican politician and was mayor of his native city from 1979 to January 17, 1997 .

Isaac was born in 1928 to a Lebanese immigrant. He grew up in Colorado Springs. He later attended the United States Military Academy at West Point , New York and studied at the University of Southern California . In 1962 Isaac returned to Colorado Springs. In 1975 he was elected to the city council and four years later to the office of mayor. After winning the next four elections, Isaac resigned in 1997, two years before the end of his regular term .

Colorado Springs Airport opened during his tenure as mayor in October 1994 . In his honor, a terminal was named after Isaac in 2002.

Isaac was married and divorced three times. Five children were born from his marriages.
