Robert Manne

Robert Manne (born October 31, 1947 ) is an Australian political scientist and professor emeritus at La Trobe University in Melbourne. He is considered to be one of Australia's leading intellectuals.

Life

Man's parents were Jewish refugees from Europe.

Mann's research interests include Eastern and Central European politics, the Cold War, and the History Wars . From 1990 to 1997 he was editor of Quadrant magazine and from 2006 to 2011 chairman of the editorial board of The Monthly magazine , for which he also regularly contributes. Manne is editor of the anthology Whitewash: On Keith Windschuttle's Fabrication of Aboriginal History (2003), in which scientists and professors argue against Keith Windschuttle's theses on the history of the Australian Aborigines .

He criticized the coverage and public influence of the conservative Murdoch newspaper The Australian in his 2011 essay Bad News: Murdoch's Australian and the Shaping of the Nation . He has also done research on anti-Semitism and the Holocaust . He is the author or editor of a total of 20 books.

Manne has received numerous awards for his books and essays. He is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia .

In a 2005 poll by the Sydney Morning Herald , Robert Manne was voted Australia's leading intellectual.
