Robert McLachlan (entomologist)

Robert McLachlan (also Mac Lachlan or M'Lachlan ; born April 10, 1837 in Ongar , Essex , † May 23, 1904 in Lewisham ) was an English entomologist .

Live and act

He was the son of Hugh McLachlan . He originally devoted himself to the study of botany before specializing in the neuroptera . He was the first editor of the Entomologists' Monthly Magazine .

In 1858 McLachlan became a member of the Entomological Society of London , secretary from 1868 to 1872, treasurer from 1873 to 1875 and from 1891 to 1904, and president from 1885 to 1886. In 1861 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh . From 1862 he was also a member of the Linnean Society of London , from 1877 the Royal Society , from 1881 the Zoological Society of London , from 1888 the Royal Horticultural Society . He was also a member of the Council of the Ray Society .
