Robert Charles Reneke Hoyer Millar, 2nd Baron Inchyra ( April 4, 1935 - June 27, 2011 in King's Sombe , Isle of Wight / Hampshire ) was a British peer , banker and politician .

life and career

Millar was born on April 4, 1935 to Frederick Hoyer Millar, 1st Baron Inchyra and Anna Judith Elizabeth van Swinderen. He attended Eton College and later New College . Millar served in the Scots Guards .

He later worked as a banker. From 1967 to 1975 he was regional director ( Local Director ) of Barclays Bank in Newcastle upon Tyne . At Barclays Bank, he was Regional General Manager from 1976 to 1981 . From 1982 to 1985 he was Deputy Chairman ( Deputy Chairman ) of Barclays Bank Trust Co Ltd . Millar was Chief Executive Officer of Barclays Bank plc from 1985 to 1987.

At UK Financial Services he was a director from 1987 to 1988. From 1988 to 1994, Millar was Director General of the British Bankers Association . From 1979 to 2002 he was director of Witan Investment Co plc . In the European Utilities Trust plc it from 1994 to 2005 Chairman ( Chairman ). From 1994 to 2003 he was chairman of the National Association of Clubs for Young People (NACYP). He was also Treasurer of the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) from 2001 to 2009 and a member of the Queen's Body Guard for Scotland , Royal Company of Archers .

Membership in the House of Lords

After the death of his father in 1989, Millar inherited the title of Baron Inchyra and the then associated seat in the House of Lords . There he sat as a crossbencher . He took his seat for the first time on May 1, 1990. He gave his inaugural address on November 11, 1992 on the subject of small businesses .

In the years that followed, he addressed small business complaints, the Criminal Justice and Public Order Bill, and a Lords Amendment, most recently on October 25, 1994.

He lost his seat through the House of Lords Act 1999 .

Family and death

Millar married Fiona Mary Sheffield on August 1, 1961, the daughter of Edmund Charles Reginald Sheffield and Nancie Miriel Denise Soames. They had three children, a son and two daughters.

Millar died on June 27, 2011 at his Rookley Manor home at the age of 76. His widow is a descendant of the Sheffield Baronets . His son Christian Millar, 3rd Baron Inchyra (* 1962) inherited the title .
