Robert Monier was active as a rugby player before the First World War and played two international matches for France . In 1911 he was part of the French team against Ireland , a year later he played for France against Scotland . In 1909 and 1911 he became French champion with Stade Bordelais . Monier, who sailed for the Cercle de la Voile d'Arcachon , took part in sailing at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp after the World War, where he was a crew member of the Rose Pompon under skipper Albert Weil alongside Félix Picon . The only competitor in the regatta was the Dutch boat Oranje owned by skipper Joop Carp . Since the Rose Pompon was delayed due to problems with customs, the first of three races was not held. The second and third races were won by the Orange , so that Monier, Picon and Weil received the silver medal.

Like his father, Monier was a wine merchant.
