Robert Alexander Nortmann (born December 8, 1987 in Nassau ( Bahamas )) is a Canadian / Bahamian basketball player who also has German citizenship. He is in the squad of the Gladiators Trier .

career

Nortmann, who comes from German grandparents who emigrated from Hamburg to Canada during the Second World War , was born in the Bahamas and moved with his family to Canada , his father's home country , in 2001 . He started playing basketball at the age of 15. He played basketball at the Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute and, from 2007, at Dalhousie University in Halifax (Province of Nova Scotia ). In his final season 2011/12 he scored an average of 14.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per encounter for Dalhousie.

Nortmann made his first experiences as a professional basketball player in the shirt of the Maitland Mustangs in Australia . In the spring season 2013 he posted 18.1 points per mission for the team. This was followed by stations in the Canadian NBL league, his statistical values ​​were each well below those he had achieved in Australia and most recently at Dalhousie University. In the meantime, namely in the 2014/15 season, he was part of the support program of the Harlem Globetrotters .

During the 2016/17 season, Nortmann was under contract with the Italian fourth division basket Francavilla in 1963 and achieved an average of 11.2 points in 22 season appearances. He returned to Canada in February 2017 and finished the season in the NBL. In 24 games for Island Storm, he scored an average of 1.9 points and 1.5 rebounds.

At the beginning of the 2017/18 season he played two games for Windsor Express in the Canadian NBL and scored an average of two points per encounter. In mid-December 2017 he was signed by the German second division club Gladiators Trier . He played 23 games this season for Trier, scored an average of 4.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per encounter and reached the semi-finals of the championship round with the team.

In June 2018, Nortmann was signed by the Bundesliga relegated Tigers Tübingen . At the end of September 2018, he suffered a stress fracture in his left foot. In the end, he played nine game appearances for Tübingen in the 2018/19 season and achieved an average of 1.4 points and 1.2 rebounds per encounter. Nortmann then played for the Guelph Nighthawks  in Canada, and in January 2020 he was signed by the Icelandic  second division club UMF Sindri. In May 2020, his commitment was announced by the Icelandic first division club Fjölnir Karfa , but it was then broken up, Nortmann returned to Trier.

National team

In November 2017, Nortmann was appointed to the national team of the Bahamas and took part in the selection round for the 2019 World Cup.
