Sir Robert Percy of Scotton (around 1445, † 1485 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir Robert Percy of Scotton was a son of Sir Robert Percy and is distantly related to the House of Percy .

Sir Robert lived most of his youth in the household of Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick , where he lived with Richard Duke of Gloucester , later Richard III. , was trained. The two formed a close friendship that would last their lives. On the eve of Richard III's coronation. Sir Percy was knighted on July 5, 1483 . Sir Robert was honored with Francis Lovel, 1st Viscount Lovel, of serving the royal couple at the coronation celebrations. Richard III Appointed Sir Robert to his Privy Council , appointed him Comptroller of the Royal Household , Sheriff of Essex and Herefordshire , Captain of the Guard and Keeper of the Royal manors Kennington in 1484 . Robert Percy also received nine houses from the king, which had previously belonged to John de Vere, 13th Earl of Oxford .

Sir Robert was appointed Justice of Array to guard the border in 1484 because of fear of invasion by Henry Tudor .

On August 22, 1485, Sir Robert fought for his king at the Battle of Bosworth and fell. Other sources say, however, that Sir Percy escaped and fought against Henry VII at the Battle of Stoke in 1487 , received pardon for this in 1488 and got back his confiscated possessions. But it could also be his son of the same name who fought at Stoke.

Sir Robert was married twice. First marriage to Eleanor, a daughter of Ralph Bewely. Second marriage to Joyce, a daughter of Norman Washbourne
