Robert Steven Kapito (born February 1957 in New York ) is an American entrepreneur. Kapito is the founder, president, and board member of the New York-based world's largest asset manager BlackRock .

Life

Born in February 1957 in New York, Robert "Rob" Steven Kapito graduated from Wharton Business School with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1979 . Capito's career then began in 1979 at the investment bank First Boston . After an interim position at the management consultancy Bain & Company in 1982 and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Harvard Business School , the economist returned to First Boston in 1983 as Vice President of Mortgage Business . There Kapito met Laurence D. Fink with whom he left in 1988, the investment bank and under the umbrella of private equity -Beteiligungsgesellschaft Blackstone asset manager BlackRock founded. Over the next several years, BlackRock grew under Kapito's leadership to become the world's largest asset manager. Today, Kapito is responsible for day-to-day operations at BlackRock as President, Board Member and Member of the Global Executive Committee . The 60-year-old is said to have ambitions to move to the top of the supervisory board and to follow Fink, who is five years older than him. Kapito is also on the board of directors of iShares , an amalgamation of several exchange-traded funds (ETF) managed by BlackRock . Robert Kapito lives in Manhattan, New York, with his wife, Ellen, and their family .

philanthropy

From 2014 to 2016, Kapito was a board member of the Wall Street division of the United Jewish Appeal-Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York Inc. , the world's largest regional philanthropic association. In June 2016 Kapito eventually became the chairman of the UJA-Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York Inc. appointed. Kapito is also a member of the Wall Street Dinner Committee of the UJA Federation of New York . In addition to these commitments, Kapito is President of the Hope & Heroes Children's Cancer Fund based at the Columbia University Medial Center .
