Robert Nicholas Maxwell Watson (born May 3, 1977 , Harrow , London ) is a developer of FreeBSD and founder of the TrustedBSD project. He is currently in the workgroup security of the Institute for (Security Research Group) computer science of (Computer Laboratory) at Cambridge University as a lecturer in systems security and architecture busy.

Life

Watson earned a degree in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University and received a Ph.D. in Computer Security from Cambridge University. His supervisor was Ross J. Anderson and his work was sponsored by Google . He worked not only in Cambridge, but also at the National Institutes of Health , Carnegie Mellon University, Trusted Information Systems , Network Associates , McAfee and SPARTA.

His works are u. a. supported by DARPA , Apple Computer , Google, the United States Navy and other US agencies. His main research interests are in network and operating system security . His contributions to open source software include the development of the FreeBSD network stack , which is designed for multiple threads and processors , the TrustedBSD project, OpenBSM and Capsicum. His writing is featured on forums such as ACM's Queue Magazine, the USENIX Annual Technical Conference, BSDCons, and a Slashdot interview. He was also a FreeBSD Core Team member from 2000 to 2012 .
