Robert Wilhelm Weber (born November 26, 1830 in Quedlinburg , † July 12, 1890 in Munich ) was a German landscape painter.

Life

Robert Wilhelm Weber was born as the son of a former captain and landowner in the Prussian district town of Quedlinburg am Harz . After attending school there, Robert Weber studied and passed the law exam at the university in Berlin. However, Robert Weber did not pursue the typical civil service career as initially intended, but went on extensive trips after completing his university studies, during which he began to paint and draw with great passion and self-taught to acquire appropriate artistic knowledge and skills. During his travels he also stayed in France for a long time, where he a. a. also painted in the area around Versailles .

In 1859 he settled as a landscape painter in Wernigerode , the capital of the county of the same name in the Kingdom of Prussia , where he founded a family.

"He used his collected studies for pictures, which he brought to the exhibition in Munich with good success in the Kunstverein."

His close contacts with the Bavarian capital Munich finally ensured that he and his family moved there in 1884.

Among his painter friends was the 12 years younger Swiss landscape painter Adolf Stäbli , whom he received several times in the Harz Mountains.

His works include several views of Harz and Brocken, various images of the Alps from Upper Bavaria and views of the Zugspitze and the Waxenstein, which are now exhibited in several museums or are privately owned. In addition, Robert Weber also painted rural depictions from the lowlands with fields, farmsteads and horse-drawn vehicles.
